How to Support Disclosure of Autism at Work?

Join Zsofia Utry Employment Specialist from Autism Understanding Scotland for a presentation and discussion on how to remove barriers and enable people at work to share their autistic identities, and how to manage this information both as colleagues and managers. Most autistic people have dilemmas about to what extent if to any to share that they are autistic and/or have a diagnosis of autism at work. Recognition of autistic talents has increased in the last decade or so typically in UK and US workplaces, however there is still plenty of stigma and misconceptions attached to autism and it might be risky to share one's own identity and/or diagnosis at work. As a result of that many autistic people reluctant to share this information and therefore miss out on essential workplace support also referred to as reasonable adjustments in the UK. Consequently, autistic people might not fulfil their full potential at work and even more likely to lose their jobs and experience stress and anxiety. We would like to share our autistic views and facilitate and encourage conversations at work so autistic differences are accepted and supported at work.
